More Acai Research
Aside from the much-touted and proven health benefits of eating acai in any of its forms, research continues to uncover more amazing properties of the amazing Brazilian fruit. By now many have heard that researchers at the University of Florida released a study in early 2006 wherein they showed that the acai fruit may have the ability to fight cancer.
The study, conducted at the university by professors, associate-professors, and doctoral students, included Stephen Talcott, an assistance professor in the university's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, as well Susan Percival, a professor with the food science and human nutrition department. Four acai extracts were used in a model study and the team reported that the berries triggered a self-destruct response in up to eighty-six percent of leukemia tested. While they cautioned that this does not prove anything about the ability of the acai berry to fight cancer in human bodies, they did mention that it is very encouraging to see and that it certainly shows the benefits acai can have in our bodies.
Research on the acai berry will continue at the University, they said, and with studies slated to take place over the next couple of years. Obviously we hope to see more and more information come out of institutions around the world about the amazing benefits and properties of the acai berry. What is encouraging to note is that the bulk of research is just beginning to be done because finally processed / freeze dried acai products have made it possible to study acai with its original make-up in tact -- and of course they also make it possible for you to enjoy acai and receive its full health benefits.
