Program Supported by Rhythm of Hope Receives Award From Brazilian President

Arte Consciente, one of the major programs supported by Rhythm of Hope (an NGO Açai Roots partners with) received an award of recognition for helping Brazil make progress on its development goals, from Luís Ignácio Lula da Silva, the president of the Republic of Brazil

The award ceremony took place in Brazil's capital, Brasilia-DF. The annual competition, which has reached its 3rd year, received 1,477 submissions and Art Consciente was one of the 20 winners.

Phillip Wagner, Director of Rhythm of Hope, remembered in his blog-post that when he first learned about Arte Consciente, the program did not have support of any kind and was almost completely unknown, even in the city of Salvador (where most of its projects take place).

With the help of Rhythm of Hope, Arte Consciente founders have done a tremendous work in their local densely populated community (today 38,000 residents), by reducing violence and offering development opportunities for local children and youth.

When it first started, the program only had the streets work with, at the time, about 160 children. Currently, the program is completing a three story Arte Consciente community center where hundreds of children and youth benefit from, and has been able to acquire several resources to maximize their projects.

Members of the Boxing team, for instance, have won important tittles; the percussion, dance and circus arts teams have performed in several places, and have even had the opportunity to perform at University of Virginia, and at many other locations.

The 30th Natural Products Expo West show was held on March 12-14, 2010 in Anaheim California.

Over 53,000 attendees were present during the 3-day trade show to see the newest products, trends and what is, indeed, hot in the Natural Products market today.

Once again Açai Roots made a major statement and proved that the Açai Roots Team has done it again! This time with its new (up-coming) product - the Pure Açaí Juice.

A product developed to offer consumers an authentic açaí juice experience. In other words, the real deal!

Our delicious and refreshing açaí juice is made with the best açaí berry pulp available in Brazil, and has no other fruit juices or flavors added to it!

The product was a hit among the attendees. The positive feedback was unanimous and we enjoyed to hear similar words over and over from our visitors.

Last week, a group of UCSD Graduate students (currently working in a project involving the Acai Berry) visited our office in San Diego to learn more about this Brazilian fruit sensation.

Our experienced team (who grew-up with açaí being part of our lives back in Brazil) was flattered to receive the students and help them learn more about the processes involved with the acai berry - from the moment it is harvested until it is available to consumers in stores, and much more.

At the end of the pleasant meeting, the students (Claudia and Chirag) were presented with samples from Açai Roots.

Brazilian professional surfer Adriano de Souza, also known as Mineirinho, and Tony Silva (former Brazilian pro surfer) recently visited the Açai Roots Team while in San Diego. The two surfers joined our team for some sushi in Pacific Beach and took home Açai Roots' products with them.

From being considered the next Brazilian Surf star since the age of 15, Adriano de Souza has exceeded the expectations placed on his shoulders and is now a reality in the WCT. The 23-year-old Brazilian is currently ranked #5 in the WCT and is the country's biggest hope for conquering the WCT title.

Mineirinho's next appearance is expected to be in Gold Coast (Qld-Australia) at the Quicksilver Pro.

Açai Roots™ Donates Food and Toys to Families in Tijuana.

With the help of several volunteers and contributors, Açai Roots donated toys and sponsored an on-site cookout to over 40 families from an underprivileged community in Tijuana.

“We estimate that over 250 people showed-up for the event, possibly even more. We are very happy with the success of the program and each year we come here trying to do a little better than the year before,” said Marco Rega, Açai Roots Co-founder and Director of Sales.

One of the highlights of the event was marked by Santa Clause’s appearance.

After all participants had finished their meal, the Açai Roots van drove slowly into the crowed and created anticipation among the attendees. Excited kids started to gather, and Santa Clause finally revealed himself - jumping out from the backdoors of the van, and embracing dozens of children at the same time.

Santa gave gifts to the children and families present at the event, took photos, received hugs and brought smiles to everyone’s face.
