what is coconut water?

Coconut water, also known as coconut juice, is the clear and thick juice found inside the coconut itself. It has a light and refreshing taste, it is low in calories (about 50 per 8 oz) and it is not too sweet. Not to confuse with “coconut milk” which is white and thick juice extracted by pressing the coconut pulp, which is very used for cooking and has a much stronger “milky” taste. Naturally rich in potassium and electrolytes, coconut water is a perfect refreshment for after a workout or anytime as thirst quencher.

Coconut water has always been part of our lifestyle growing up in Rio, even before the acai boom, coconut water was already present in every corner of Rio, as a natural and delicious way to quench our thirst. Around the 90′s other parts of the country that are far from the coast started consuming lots of coconut water due to the new way of distributing the coconut water in a shelf-stable manner: tetrapak packaging.
